About us
The State Coal Mine-Rescue Station Arts Inc. (SCMRSA) is based in rural Bass Coast and is a voluntary not-for-profit community arts organisation run by a community representative Committee of Management. It is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and holds Deductible Gift Recipient status from the ATO.
SCMRSA was incorporated in 2005 and has a lease with Parks Victoria for use of the heritage listed Rescue Station building. Its vision is to initiate a vibrant community Arts Centre that builds on our heritage/cultural values, with educational opportunities. Its Statement of Purpose and Strategic Plan support this vision. The SCMRSA has a strong history of providing a range of arts activities for the benefit of the community. Core activities include the establishment of the Clayworkers Studio – a community pottery studio.
SCMRSA provides community arts activities and events including after school art for kids, open access for artmakers, ballet barre, drawing classes for adults, clayworkers studio and classes, open access for musicans, and other programs dedicated to inclusive community engagement. Consultation with community identifies activities and workshops that respond to community requests and needs. All activities at SCMRSA support the local arts community, facilitate community connections and reduce social isolation.
The State Coal Mine Rescue Station Arts Inc acknowledges it is situated on the traditional homelands of the Bunurong/Boonwurrung people and we pay our respects to their Elders – past, present and emerging.
